On Saturday during spring cleaning you find something you had forgotten all about.
While spring cleaning, you come across something you had forgotten all about.
A photo album, a note from a friend.
You pull it out and begin to flip through it, enjoying the memories again.
You suddenly hear the tone to your voice change.
You look up and see that your daughter has turned off her movie, and has come over to sit next to you.
You smile, and begin to tell her about the pictures in the album.
“Remember when your friend and I went to a Halloween party, and we dressed up like that?
I had a green costume and you had a gray costume.
And then we went trick or treating, and you picked up an orange pumpkin.
We got pretty far!”
“Yeah, I remember that.
I picked up an orange pumpkin, too.”
You begin to tell her about Halloween night, and how you took her trick – or – treating.
“We went around the block, and then we went back to the house, and we ate the candy.
I don’t remember the rest of it.
Did I forget anything?”
“Well, yeah, I was a little scared to go up to that house.
But I knew I had to get that candy, or I would be in trouble, so I went up and gave them the candy.
Then they gave us a Snickers bar, so you and I shared it.
I think you got the most, though.
That was probably my favorite Halloween.
I don’t remember a lot about it, but I know that we had a good time, and that we both had a Snickers bar.””What else happened that year?””That’s it for now.
I have to get back to the movie, but I promise I will tell you more next time.
Okay, I’ll see you soon.
Love you!”
Your daughter has run off to the movie, leaving you to listen to your favorite songs by the Indigo Girls.
You ‘ve listened to the album many times before, but each time you listen, you discover new things.
You begin to feel nostalgic about the old days, before your family had grown.
You look around you, as if you’ve become trapped in an old time warp.
The album ends, and you think about the songs.
‘I remember when I was a little girl, my little sister and I used to play this game with my mother and grandmother.
”
“We went around the house and we took turns being blindfolded, and then we had to find things.
Like your mom would have a box and you would have to be the first one to pick it up, and then she would tell you where it was.
You would run around the house and eventually find things like food or diapers.
When you were old enough, you started to go to stores and you would buy things.
That was when we started saving for you.
”
You smile, remembering the good times.
‘When you were old enough, I bought you a dog.
He was a mutt, and we named him Misty.
He was your best friend for a long time.
He would follow you around everywhere, and always sat next to you on the couch.
He was your baby, your baby boy, and your best friend.
”
You remember Misty.
She was such a nice dog, always waiting for you at the door when you got home.
‘You were so funny, and smart, and you loved being around people.
You liked being the center of
